Champ Bailey might not have taken his final shot at continuing a Hall of Fame-caliber career.

The veteran cornerback worked out with the Detroit Lions on Thursday, according to Tim Twentyman of the team's official website.
The New Orleans Saints released the 36-year-old defensive back during final cuts. Bailey's agent, Jack Reale, insisted to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that the former All-Pro defender is healthy and ready to continue his career.
"Definitely, and he is fully healthy now," Reale said. "He had a plantar problem, which is resolved, but he just missed too much time for the coach's evaluation to be complete and unfortunately in the last two games they didn't throw at him, so he couldn't show his stuff. He is fine."
Bailey's workout went well and the Lions liked what they saw, Rapoport reported. However, no signing is imminent, per a source informed of the team's situation.
One potential reason not to sign Bailey this week could be that veterans contracts are guaranteed for the year if they are signed before Week 1. Bailey and other vets are more likely to be able to get jobs after Week 1 when contracts aren't guaranteed for the full season.
If he's healthy, Bailey could be a decent down-the-road addition to a Detroit team that has needed cornerback help for a generation. Rashean Mathis and Darius Slay currently sit atop the Lions' depth chart with Bill Bentley and Cassius Vaughn as backups.
It would cost the Lions nothing to take a spin with the 16-year pro and see if he truly is healthy.
