Royals left fielder scratched from Wednesday's lineup for finale with Rays

ST. PETERSBURG -- Left fielderAlex Gordon was out of the Royals' lineup with a sprained right wrist on Wednesday night and his All-Star Game availability might be in peril.
Gordon was a late scratch from the lineup about two hours before the game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
"I just hope this doesn't jeopardize Alex's All-Star thing, but it very well could," manager Ned Yost said. "We'll just see."
Gordon will return to Kansas City with the Royals after the series finale against the Rays. A four-game series against the first-place Detroit Tigers opens on Thursday night at Kauffman Stadium.
"We'll check it [Thursday]," Yost said. "We'll get him back to Kansas City and have our hand specialist check him, and see where we're at."
Gordon injured his wrist at Cleveland and then aggravated it against Tampa Bay on Monday night.
"He did it the first time in Cleveland breaking up a double play," Yost said. "The second time, which made it much worse, was here the first night on the double he hit down the line when he slid into second base."
That came in the eighth inning of Monday night's 6-0 win and Gordon added an RBI single in the ninth. He played the entire 4-3 loss to the Rays on Tuesday night with a single in five at-bats.
Gordon had missed just two of the previous 89 games.

Moustakas sidelined by flu for Rays finale

KC@CLE: Moustakas launches solo homer to right
ST. PETERSBURG -- Third basemanMike Moustakas joined the growing roster of medically afflicted Royals players on Wednesday.
Moustakas was bumped from the starting lineup against the Rays because of flu.
"He was throwing up all night," manager Ned Yost said before the rubber game.
Moustakas' left-handed bat was supposed to be in the lineup against Rays right-hander Alex Cobb, but Moustakas' right-handed counterpart, Danny Valencia, took his spot.
"Moose is in the training room looking like death warmed over," Yost said.
Left fielder Alex Gordon was also scratched because of a sprained right wrist and starting pitcherJason Vargas was in the hospital, awaiting appendix surgery.
"I heard [Vargas] was sick, then Moose came in sick and now I'm like, 'Oh, Lord, I hope this isn't an epidemic,'" Yost said. "But everybody [else] is doing OK."
